Graham Papers. Vol. clix (ff. 37). Papers relating to the Irish repeal agitation and the trial of Daniel O’Connell. The repeal movement, founded by O'Connell in 1840, aimed to have the union between Great Britain and Ireland repealed, and a separate legislature established in Dublin. O'Connell was arrested and tried on charges of conspiracy in 1843 and was jailed for a year. Includes a copy letter describing the repeal campaign, 'Memorandum respecting the State Prosecutions in Ireland', by Sir Frederick Pollock, Attorney-General, copy affidavits, letters from policemen reporting on proceedings at a repeal meeting, a printed notice of a meeting to arrange a contribution to the National Repeal Fund, and a printed address made by Daniel O'Connell on being sentenced to imprisonment, a paper entitled 'Grounds for striking off the jurors in the case of The Queen v. O'Connell', and notes by Graham relating to the Church in Ireland; 1843-1848.
