ONE hundred and four original letters from Richard Hurd, Bishop successively of Lichfield and Coventry and of Worcester, the first addressed to William Warburton and the remainder to Mrs. [Gertrude] Warburton and her second husband, the Rev. Martin Stafford Smith; 20 Oct. 1756, 8 Oct. 1773-26 Nov. 1797. In some cases the letters are acconipanied by drafts of answers, including letters from Mrs. M. S. Smith relative to the correspondence of W. Warburton and the Hon. Charles Yorke; 26 Feb., 3 Mar. 1788, ff. 120, 121 b. Included also is a letter from R[ichard] Hurd [nephew of the Bishop] to the Rev. M. S. Smith, relative to a portrait of John Locke; Hartlebury Castle, 30 Oct. 1797, f. 152. Paper. Quarto.
