- Title:
- Instructions for the stained glass windows of Greyfriars Church, Greenwich
- Scope & Content:
-
A roll of instructions for the glaziers creating stained glass windows for Greyfriars Church, Greenwich. The text describes each figure to be depicted, including their physical appearance, dress, attributes, and their heraldry. The figures are Eadburga, daughter of St Aethelberht, St Kenelm, Charles, martyr and king of France, St Blitha, St Winifred, Saeberht, king of Essex, William fitzHerbert, archbishop of York and saint, St Eormenhild, Henry VII, Elizabeth of York, St Mildred, Nectan, St Oswald, king of Northumbria, and Alfonso, king of Portugal.
Probably originally a single roll together with Egerton MS 2341/1. As this roll refers to Henry’s queen, Elizabeth of York, in the present tense, the manuscripts probably date to before her death in February 1503.
Decoration:
Heraldic shields in colours and gold.
