Miscellaneous papers, musical extracts, etc. As follows.- (1) Proof-slips of a biographical article on Friedrich Matemus Niecks, Reid Professor of Music at Edinburgh, published in the Musical Times, Sept. 1899, with autograph additions and corrections by Niecks, whose covering letter, dated 17 Aug. 1899, is in Egerton MS. 3095, f. 155. ff. 2-12.
(2) Proof-slips of a similar article on Sir Edward William Elgar, published in the Musical Times, Oct. 1900, with autograph corrections and additions by Elgar, and by his wife Caroline Alice Elgar. (Some related correspondence, dated 18-20 Sept. 1900, is in Egerton MS. 3090, ff. 35-42.) ff. 13-22.
(3) Extract by Elgar from one of his set of 'Quadrilles for an Eccentric Orchestra', composed circ. 1880 for the staff band of the Warwickshire County Lunatic Asylum, arranged for the pianoforte (f. 23) and in full score (f. 24). Autograph. Part of the pianoforte arrangement was reproduced in the article in the Musical Times cited in art. (2) above. ff. 23, 24.
(4) Proof-slip of an article on Elgar's oratorio 'The Apostles', published in the Musical Times, April 1903, with autograph corrections and additions by Elgar. ff. 25, 26.
(5) Part-song, 'How calmly the evening once more is descending', composed for four voices by Elgar, to words by Thomas Toke Lynch, and completed at Rome, 2 Dec. 1907 (f. 29 b). Autograph. A covering letter by Elgar is in Egerton MS. 3090, f. 88. The song was first published by Novello & Co. in 1908. ff. 26-29.
(6) Opening bars of a part-song, 'Awake! Awake! the breezes shout' by Granville Ransom Bantock. Autograph. Signed, with date 15 Dec. 1908. Reproduced in the Musical Times, Jan. 1909. f. 31.
(7) 'Chant for the Maundy Service' by Walter Galpin Alcock, Mus. D.; 1909. Autograph. Signed. f. 32.
(8) Chants by various composers, mainly copies made by F. G. Edwards for use in his One hundred Psalms pointed for Chanting, 1906. Those by John Henry Maunder (ff. 36, 37) are with one exception autograph and signed. Those on f. 35 are annotated by Edwin George Monk. ff. 34-37.
