D. Seven letters to David Thom, minister in Liverpool (fl. 1795-1868); 1843-1852. Five of the letters are from the poet Philip James Bailey (b. 1816, d. 1902) mentioning the composition, distribution and reception of his poem 'Festus'. A further letter of Bailey is Add. MS 70949. f. 334. Followed by two letters from George Gilfillan, writer and presbyterian minister (b. 1813, d. 1878) concerning his publications. The addressee of the second letter is not named but is presumed by association to be Thom. Purchased from J. L. M. Gulley, Dec. 2005.
