Battle Cruiser Squadron
82508. Keyes Papers. Vol. cxxxvi. Contains papers relating to the German fleet interned at Scapa Flow; a report of the visit of the squadron to Scandinavia; seniority lists; papers on fleet exercises; printed parliamentary papers on the navy estimates and the total naval losses in World War One; Rear-Adm. Richmond’s address to the Royal Naval War College, Greenwich; and a memorandum, with Keyes’s comments, entitled ‘Forms of Attack from the Sea, and some Notes on Forms of Defence’; 26 April 1919– 18 March 1921. Partly printed. In March 1919 Keyes was given command of the Battle Cruiser Squadron, choosing as his flagship HMS Lion. He later transferred his flag to the new cruiser, HMS Hood. Whilst only an acting Vice-Admiral when in command of the Dover Patrol, he reverted to Rear-Admiral until promoted Vice-Admiral in May 1921.
