G. K. CHESTERTON PAPERS. VOL. XI (ff. 184).
1. ff. 1-30v. Letters from Vincent McNabb to G. K. Chesterton, Frances Chesterton and Dorothy Collins; 1915-1939. Mostly published in F. Valentine, op. cit., pp. 264-275 passim.
2. ff. 31-184. Correspondence of John O'Connor with G. K. Chesterton, Frances Chesterton and Dorothy Collins, with letters to O'Connor from others; 1903-1950. O'Connor, the priest upon whom Chesterton's fictional detective Father Brown was based, was a close confidant of the Chestertons, especially in guiding them towards the Roman Catholic Church. Most of the correspondence is between O'Connor and Frances Chesterton. Many of the letters published in J. O'Connor, op. cit., pp. 98-102, 123-129; parts of four letters of 1936 from Frances Chesterton to O'Connor are published in Return to Chesterton, p. 270. Includes three letters to O'Connor from Josephine Ward, 1914-1915 (ff. 105-106, 109), mentioning the possibility of Chesterton's becoming a Roman Catholic (published in Ward, Gilbert Keith Chesterton, pp. 330-331). For other letters to O'Connor concerning Chesterton's reception into the Roman Catholic Church see Add. 73187.
