R. Amatory verses, etc.; n.d., circa 1669. These four anonymous stanzas represent part of an imaginary exchange beween Charles II and his mistress since 1660, Barbara Villiers, Countess of Castlemaine, later (1670) Duchess of Cleveland. They purport to be an answer to 'When Aurelia first I courted', a copy of which was entered in Add. MS 18220, f. 38v, on 21 Feb. 1669. Here they begin 'When my Carlus first adored me', but survive elsewhere in the variant form 'When my Charles he first adored me'. On the verso of the leaf is copied in another hand a pedigree of the Earls of Northumberland, down to Jocelin Percy, 11th and last Earl (succ. 1668: d. 1670), but omitting mention of his son who was born in February 1669. Purchased from J. L. M. Gulley, March 1998.
Paper; ff. 116-116v. 230 x 201mm.
