A. 'Plan des côtes de Ambleteuse, de Wimereux et de Boulogne'; 1805. Scale 1:10000. 'Echelle d'un miltre pour 10 metres.' Map shows coast from Audresselle to the 'Batterie de Ningle'. Map oriented with East at top. Cliffs and high and low water marks are shown, with position of shore batteries and offshore gun emplacements. Lines of fire marked in red. Encampments of French forces shown in plan. The map probably dates from the spring and summer of 1805, at which time eight or nine hundred boats had been assembled for the invasion of England. In August, however, Napoleon decided to postpone the invasion in favour of attacking the Austro-Russian alliance, and by the end of the month, the camps surrounding Boulogne had largely emptied. See Lottin, op. cit., pp. 183-193.
Ink tracing and watercolour on onion paper. Two sheets, joined at an angle, backed with four sheets of heavier paper. 300 x 1615mm.
