DROPMORE PAPERS (SERIES II). Vol. CVIII. Drafts of, and notes relating to, Grenville's writings; 1768-1854, n.d. Together with notes by members of the Grenville family including George M. Fortescue, Grenville's nephew. Includes some reading notes for which see also below Add. 69146-69157.
1. 'List of my poetical publications', intended to be included in the Appendices to the 'Commentaries' (see above).
2. Draft of Grenville's Preface to his edition of Lord Chatham's letters to his nephew (1804); 3 Dec. 1803. Imperfect. Copy, partly in Lady Grenville's hand; some corrections and sheets tipped in by Grenville. Varies slightly from the published version, and lacks its notes and glosses.
3. Notes and drafts of a projected article (?) on William of Orange; (watermarks 1799, 1803, 1805). Imperfect. Partly in Lady Grenville's hand.
4. Writings on General Monk and John Grenville, Earl of Bath, royalist; after 1805 (watermark). Fragments.
5. List of Grenville's maps, in the hand of Henry Watkin Williams Wynn, his nephew, clerk in the Foreign Office (1799-1801) and Grenville's private secretary and précis-writer (1801-1803); [1799-1809, most likely 1801-1802 on Grenville's leaving office].
6. Two drafts, one imperfect, of a projected reply by Grenville to an Edinburgh Review article critical of 'A Reply to the Calumnies of the Edinburgh Review against Oxford' (1810) by Edward Copleston; circa 1810. See Add. 69112 above. See also Notes and Queries, 10th series, VII, 16 Feb., 2, 9, March 1907. Both partly in the hand of Lady Grenville, with corrections by Grenville.
7. Letter by 'A member of the University of Oxford' [Grenville], 'To His Grace the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury', concerning a bill to fix the period of certain law terms; [1829]. Printed in The Times in 1829, according to a note by George Fortescue.
8. George Fortescue: 'Hasty Sketch' of Grenville's career; Jan. 1854. Prepared for inclusion in a new edition of Lord Chatham's letters to his nephew, proposed by John Martin, Librarian at Woburn, but 'not wanted'; the edition did not appear.
9. 'Account of specie remitted to England from the East Indies from the year 1757. Exclusive of money sent to China and money remitted by the East India Company. Delivered to me by Lord Clive Nov. 15 1768'; 1768. Endorsed by George Grenville and by his son William, Lord Grenville. Intended to be Appendix A3 to the second chapter of the 'Commentaries', according to Grenville's note on the cover. For the latter, see above Add. 69143. For Clive, see also Add. 69092.

11. 'Notes on [Adam] Smith's Wealth of Nations'; after 1808 (watermark).
12. Draft of 'Essay on Political Economy', prompted by a work by Jane Marcet, author of Conversations on Political Economy (1816); [1816-1817?]. See letter from E. Wickham to Lady Grenville, 14 Feb. [1812?] in Add. 69048 above. Imperfect.
13. Miscellaneous reading notes; 1821, n.d. (watermarks 1798-1810). Partly Greek. Includes advice given by Grenville about books to read, to an anonymous recipient, possibly H. W. W. Wynn or Grenville's ward, Earl De La Warr.
14. Miscellaneous notes on reading covering classical and biblical works, including translations; 1801, 1802, n.d. (watermarks 1798-1806). Partly Latin and Greek.
15. 'Nugae Metricae/Pars Altera'; after 1827 (watermark). Drafts of verses by Grenville and others for proposed continuation of Grenville's Nugae Metricae (1824). Partly Latin, Italian, French and Greek. Largely unpublished, but some verses on Dropmore were expanded apparently to appear in Dropmore (1830), and other works were printed in Atramentarium Petrarchium (circa 1834), an addendum to Nugae Metricae.
16. Inscription for a garden monument at Dropmore, with directions by Grenville and annotations by George M. Fortescue; after 1817 (watermark). Partly Latin.
17. 'Epistola', endorsed by Fortescue: 'Verses by Lord Grenville when at Eton'; after 1826 (watermark). Copy. Latin and Greek.
18. Memorial inscription for Charles Talbot, Viscount Ingestre, drowned at Vienna, 23 May 1826; 1826. Latin. According to a note by George Fortescue, written 'at my request' for Earl Talbot, Ingestre's father. Quoted in part in G.E.C. The Complete Peerage (1953 ed.), Vol. XII, p. 625, note c.
