STONELEIGH ABBEY MUSIC MANUSCRIPTS. Vol. I. 'The Song book of Mr Montriot'; late 17th-early 18th cent. Comprising anthems with solo bass vocal parts by Aldrich, Child and others, incompletely scored, mostly with the bass vocal line only given in the choruses. At the end (ff. 73-133), volume reversed, are songs, mostly for bass, and duets in score, by Blow (3), Henry Purcell (17, with one spurious attribution), Philip Hart (2), Courteville (2), Daniel Purcell (1), Pietro Reggio (1), Carissimi (1), Eccles (2, one incomplete), and Reading (1, dated 1702). Also two anonymous songs, 'The Old Cavalier' ('He that is a clear Cavalier') and 'Honest Tom. A New Song for St. Thomas's Day. Coventry 1709'. The second of these, the second Eccles song and the song by Reading have been added in another hand. The volume is described by John P. Cutts in Music and Letters, XXXVIII (1957), pp. 1-13. It is also No. 724 in the appendix of manuscript sources to Franklin P. Zimmerman, Henry Purcell ... An Analytical Catalogue (1963), where Purcell's works are listed.
