COLNAGHI PAPERS. Vol. IV (ff. 199). Album relating the history of the construction of the Mont Cenis tunnel in the Alps between France and Italy; 1858-1871. The album contains printed drawings, cuttings (including a complete Turin edition of Pasquino - Rivista umoristica della settimana, vol. xvi, no. 39), engravings, photographs, descriptions, and letters from Dominic Ellis Colnaghi (to his parents) relating to the planning, construction and grand opening (with printed programmes of the attendant festivities in Turin) of the Mont Cenis tunnel in 1871. Included are photographs of: Victor Emmanuel II, King of Italy; Count Camillo Benso di Cavour; the engineers Severino Grattoni and Germano Sommeiller, and others connected with the tunnel construction, as well as other portraits (engravings or printed drawings) of: Charles Albert, King of Sardinia; Victor Emmanuel II; Count Cavour, and others. Also included are views of Lanslebourg and Turin, as well as, on either side of the tunnel, Bardonnîche and Modane (together with photographs and diagrams of engineering equipment there). There are two maps (ff. 1, 199) of the area around Mont Cenis of a 'Scala di 1 a 97,750'.
