CAPEL PAPERS. Vol. V. Arthur, Lord Capell, Excellent Contemplations (2nd edn., 1683). Printed. At the front of the volume (ff. 3-5) have been added manuscript accounts of the history of the urn containing Capel's heart. Given by Mary, Duchess of Beaufort, to Francis Lowthorp in 1710 (inscription, f. 1). Subsequently owned by the antiquary Michael Lort (signature, f. 1) at the sale of whose library, Leigh and Sotheby's sale-cat., 5 April 1791, it formed lot 1313, and was acquired by A. Swinton (signature, f. 1). Presented by Robert Clutterbuck to the Cassiobury Library (stamp on upper cover).
Paper; ff. i+80. 143 x 78mm. Binding (rebacked) of dark brown calf with the Cassiobury Library stamp in gold on the upper cover.
