Ownership inscription of John Mortimer Hunt, of Surrey (f. iii). From the collection of Dr E. G. Millar (his bookplate, f. ii and notes, f. iii).
Vellum; ff. vii+544. Late medieval ink foliation to upper versos. Sec. fol.: 'excelsum ascende . . .'. 165 x 130mm. Gatherings (34) of 16. Pricked and ruled (double and triple bounding lines) in lead-point for double columns of 51 lines. Written space 115 x 90mm. Script is a Gothic textualis rotunda and glossularis. Text is below top line. 19th-century (?) binding of brown leather with gilded turn-ins by C. Smith (signed, f. iii verso).
Decoration consists of 6/10-line major initials with blue and red with bipartite bodies and blue and red flourishing. Similar 2/6-line minor initials and 1-line litterae notabiliores in alternating blue and red with contrasting flourishing. Blue and red flourished line-fillers. Blue and red running titles.
