SIR H. ELLIS AND H. J. ELLIS. Vol. II. Extracts by Henry John Ellis relating to religious houses, etc.; temp. William I-Henry VI, n.d. Partly Latin and printed. These notes were taken, circa early 20th cent., mostly from mediaeval chartularies and charters, etc., preserved in the Department of Manuscripts. The principal religious houses, mostly in the South West of England, represented are the Augustinian priories of Maiden Bradley, co. Wilts (ff. 6-7, 42-47), Breamore, co. Hants. (ff. 29-41), Bradenstoke, co. Wilts (ff. 8-18), and St Dennis, Southampton (ff. 94-108v), the two last in extracts from chartularies now numbered respectively as Add. 15314 and Stowe 925. Also included is the Benedictine abbey of Abbotsbury, co. Dors. (ff. 58v-62). Further details are taken from Add. 28024, the Beauchamp chartulary (ff. 62v-64), and Add. 29436 (ff. 78-86), the chartulary of St Swithun, Winchester. Also included are extracts from Aubrey's Antiquities of Wiltshire, ed. J. E. Jackson (1862), and Sir R. C. Hoare, History of Modern Wiltshire (1822), relating to parishes in co. Wilts (ff. 66-77). Formerly inserted loose and now tipped in passim are some notes, etc., including a letter (ff. 2, 3) of Duncan J. Warrend to Ellis, 1909.
