GUSTAV HOLST COLLECTION (PART II). Vol. XXXIII. Seven part songs for soprano solo, SSA chorus and strings (words: Robert Bridges), op. 44, H 162; [1925-1926]. Nos. 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 are autograph full scores, no. 1 is a partly autograph vocal score, and no. 4 an autograph vocal score with sketch. The seven full scores were offered to Harold Brooke after first publication (letter of 13 Feb. [1927] at ff. 1-2), but apparently a binder confused them with the set of vocal scores given to Mabel Rodwell Jones (see Thematic Catalogue p. 161). All are annotated with engraver's pencil or crayon markings. First published Novello, 1926-1927, full vocal and study scores revised by Imogen Holst published Novello, 1974. Presented by Harold Brooke Esq.

2. ff. 7-8. 'O Love I complain'. Full score. Annotated in pencil. Dedicated to J. E. Wallace.
3. ff. 9-9v. 'Angel Spirits of Sleep'. Full score. Annotated in crayon.
4. ff. 10-12v. 'When first we met' (a round). Vocal score, preceded by a sketch (f. 10). Annotated in pencil and crayon. Dedicated to Harold Brooke. Published as no. 512 of 'Novello's Octavo edition of Trios', 1926.
5. ff. 13-15. 'Sorrow and Joy'. Full score. Dedicated to Harold Brooke.
6. ff. 16-16v. 'Love on my heart from heaven fell'. Full score. Annotated in red ink. Dedicated to Harold Brooke.
7. ff. 17-26. 'Elegy' (beg. 'Assemble all ye maidens'). Full score. The title has been struck through and a note reads 'for title see piano copy' (f. 17). Annotated in red ink.
