GORDON PAPERS (BELL COLLECTION). Vol. VII (ff. 107). Annotated copies of accounts by Capt. Roderick Dew, R.N., of events during the Taiping Rebellion, 1862-1865; aft. 1866 (watermark, f. 1). Andrew Wilson lists 'the private journal kept by Captain Roderick Dew, R.N., of his operations against the Taipings in the province of Chekiang' as one of his sources, op. cit., p. xviii. The pencil annotations and alterations in the second and third accounts (ff. 20-40, 'Proceedings of Encounter at Ningpo detailing the events which led to the capture of that City on May 10th 1862', and, ff. 41-107, 'Epitome of events that occurred in the Provinces of Chikiang, from the Capture of Ningpo, May 10th 1862 till . . . March 18th 1863') are probably in Wilson's hand as they correspond almost exactly with the printed text.
