1. ff. 1-20b. Maps of China, mostly by Gen. Gordon, illustrating the course of the Taiping Rebellion, 1862-1864; 1863-1864, n.d. Included are four lithographed maps, the first of which, Sketch map of the operations against the rebels in 1862-63-64 (f. 3), is reproduced in A. Wilson, op. cit., p. 121. The other three, Sketch of Fushau & Chanzu (f. 4), Sketch illustrating the actions of the 12 & 27th October 1863 (f. 12), and Sketch map of the Rebellion 1st January 1864 (f. 15) were produced by the Topographical Depot of the War Office, and almost certainly based on Gordon's sketches on ff. 2, 7, and 14 respectively. The map on f. 15 was addressed by Gordon to 'A. Wilson' at Edinburgh, 1867, and still has the four one penny stamps attached.
2. ff. 21-34. Sketch maps, views, and notes relating to the Nile and equatorial Africa, mostly by Gen. Gordon; 1875-1883. Included are two printed maps:- (a) Gordon's proof copy from the Journal of the Royal Geographic Society of a Map of the White Nile from Lardo to Urondogani, based on his survey of 1875-1876; 1877. f. 25;- (b) Slave trade map of equatorial Africa, illustrative of a paper by J. Stevenson, Esq.; 1883. See James Stevenson, F.R.S.E., F.R.G.S., The Arab in Central Africa, Glasgow, 1888, p. 1. Included in this pamphlet, after p. 16, is another version of this map. f. 26.
