British Records Association Collection. Vol. XXI. Commonplace book in a variety of hands, mostly containing poetry and prose transmitted by 'Rev. Mr Cottam'
(f. 1b); 1789-1796. Partly Latin. Mostly comprises religious verse and epitaphs, partly by R. Cottam, including copies of poems by William Cowper:- (a) 'The Morning Dream'. ff. 5-6;- (b) 'On a Rose after a Shower'. f. 8b;- (c) 'The Dog and Water Lily – No Fable'. ff. 9-10;- (d) 'Stanzas prefixed to a Bill of Mortality for the Parish of All Saints Northampton, December 21 1787'. ff. 10-11;- (e) 'Annus Memorabilis 1789'. ff. 11b-12b. Also here (f. 20) correctly attributed to Cowper is 'Epitaph on the Death of Mr. Hamilton who died at Newport Pagnell 1788 aged 32'. The Cowper poems 'were presented to Mr [i.e. Rev. William] Bull of Newport Pagnell and copied in shorthand from the original by R. Cottam' and then dictated to the writer by R. Cottam (note on f. 4b). Neither MS. is recorded in the Index of British Literary Manuscripts, vol. iii, Part I, comp. by Margaret M. Smith, 1986, pp. 233-92.
