SIR WiLLIAM ASHLEY PAPERS. Vol (ff. 302). Papers relating mostly to a 'Memorandum on the effect on trade and industry of an indemnity to be paid by the enemy at the conclusion of the War', prepared in the course of 1916 by Ashley, with the assistance of John Maynard Keynes (Baron Keynes 1942), then at the Treasury, at the request of the Board of Trade. Three drafts (ff. 38-75, 100-166) and a printed copy (ff. 182-190) of the memorandum are included; the printed copy is dated 2 jan. igi6 (sic for 1917), an error which is repeated in R. F. Harrod, The Life of John Maynard Keynes, 1951, p. 228; May 1916-May 1917. Followed (fF. 191-302) by miscellaneous printed papers on reparations; July 1917-April 1925.
