'FEMINA'. Transcript, by Albert Way, F.S.A., of the English and Norman French poem 'Femina' from the unique MS., Trinity College, Cambridge, B. 14. 40 (M. R. James, Cat. of Western MSS., i, no. 324); 12 Sept. 1843 (f. 42). An account of the original MS. is given by Way in his edition of the Promptorium Parvulorum, Camden Soc., 1865, part iii, pp. lxxii-lxxiii, and the poem was finally published by W. Aldis Wright, Femina, Roxburghe Club, 1909. The MS. was missed from Trinity College Library in 184949, and was not recovered until 1896 (W. Aldis Wright, op. cit.,
pp. xii-xiii), and some correspondence relating to its disappearance is included in Add.MS.42728 below. Cf.D.A.Winstanley,'Halliwell Phillipps and Trinity College Library, The Library, 5th Ser., ii, 1948, pp. 250-282. Another transcript of the poem, made by Sir Frederic Madden whilst the MS.
