‘Honor is before titles’ (‘Nobs and snobs’), drama in three acts by Charles Reade. Licence sent 30 April 1852 for performance at the Strand 30 April 1852. Inside cover lists ‘C. Read, Garrick Club, King St, Covent Garden.’ Another signature, possibly the theatre manager’s, appears on covers of acts. Revisions to text throughout. LCO Day Book Add. 53703 records the stipulation that oaths and a few short phrases be omitted. Incorrectly listed in Nicoll as ‘Honour before titles.’ Nicoll lists a second performance date at the St. James’s, 3 October 1854. Keywords: nobility, French influence, French character names, love, marriage, marriage plot, servants, money, murder, duelling, mothers, daughters, melodrama.
