'The covenanters, or, The battle of Bothwell Bridge', grand equestrian spectacle in three acts by W. T. Townsend. Nicoll records the title as 'The battle of Bothwell Brigg'. Licence sent 2 October 1858 for performance at Astley's Amphitheatre 11 October 1858. Title page signed William Cook, lessee and manager, and R. Phillips, stage manager. Contains detailed stage directions for equestrian and battle scenes. LCO Day Book Add. 52703 records the stipulation that the word 'Lord' be substituted with 'Heaven'. Various earlier stage versions exist, for which see Nicoll.
