La part du diable, opera-comique in three acts; the words by E. Scribe for the music by D. Auber. Printed (C. Tresse; La France dramatique au dix-neuvième siècle: choix de pieces modernes, 1842). French. Licence sent 23 December 1858 for performance at the St. James's. Publisher's advertising at back of text. Auber's opera originally performed in Paris in 1843 with Scribe's libretto; performed in London in 1845 in French, and in 1849 in English, and frequently revived under its alternative title Carlo Broschi (the real name of the principal character, the castrato Alessandro Farinelli). This text has nothing to do with the opera 'The devil to pay', with which it is frequently confused. Words for all songs given.
