Fanchon the cricket (altered from The cricket), domestic drama in five acts by Ferdinand Shuler. Printed. Licence sent 19 September 1862 for performance at the Adelphi, Liverpool. Handwritten title page signed the property of Ellie Henderson U.S.A. Almost certainly a translation of the German stage version by Charlotte Birch Pfeiffer of the story La petite fadette by George Sand, which was itself based on Die Grille, by August Waldauer. A review of the American actress Maggie Mitchell in the name part in a performance of this play in Boston, Mass. In June 1863 was incidentally the first publsihed work of the author Henry James. Published in New York, also in Dick's Standard Plays, no. 664.
