'The scarlett letter, or, Lost in the snow' (altered from 'Lover's leap; or, Lost in the snow') (al. 'The scarlet letter, or, The branded brow'), domestic drama in three acts by A. Rayner. Licence sent 30 September 1863 for performance at the Grecian. Front cover of final act explains title changes and changes in act numbers as "This piece may be played in two acts or in three. and (sic) may be called exclusive of the above title 'The scarlet letter, or, The branded brow'. Name of B. Conquest, actual and responsible manager, noted on the script. MS written in more than one hand. Numerous inserts and paste-ins. Cuts and amendments in ink in different hand. Fragile MS. Name of F. W. G. Young, copyist, noted on last page of script. Listed in LCO Day Book Add. 52703 as 'Lover's leap, or, Lost in the snow'. Under the title 'Lover's leap' performed at the Grecian 30 October 1863 but no attribution given in Nicoll, which cites 'The scarlet letter' by A. Rayner with a first performance at the Grecian on 5 October 1863.
