Correspondence relating to Naval strategy and the progress of the war, including discussions of mines, blockades, the weather, seaplanes, submarines, operational orders, staff changes, fleet movements etc. Letters from Jackson also discuss the situation in the Dardanelles, the construction of tanks and the Battle of Jutland. Letters from Madden also discuss fleet exercises, attack on trade routes, Jellicoe’s dismissal by Geddes in Dec 1917, the Armistice conference, the internment of the German fleet and post-war analysis of the Battle of Jutland. Letters from Bayly date mostly from 1917 and also discuss staff changes, Jelicoe’s dismissal and the US fleet.
