NAPIER PAPERS. Vol. VII (ff. iii+46). 'Journal [of George Napier] begun at Musselburgh March 15 [and ending on 29 Aug.] 1779', noted by Napier on the cover (f. i) as being 'A No 1'. The journal proper is preceded (f. 1b) by rules for computing latitude north of the Equator and (f. 2) by lists of rations for soldiers on board ship and followed (f. 43b) by lists of the strength of regiments employed for the siege of Charleston in the War of American Independence, 20 Dec. 1779-23 Apr. 1780. At the end (f. 46) is a prescription for childrens' ailments, 22 July 1779. Notes in the hand of Napier's son, Richard, on the cover (f. i), 1851, and, in pencil, on f. 39.
