WILLOUGHBY GORDON PAPERS. Vol. XLVI (ff. 38). Journal by Gen. Sir James Bathurst of the campaign in East Prussia; May-June 1807. Autograph. The account is illustrated by five maps (ff. 33b-38) in pen and colour wash, and evidently in Bathurst's hand. A much shortened version was published without attribution in Gordon's Military Transactions of the British Empire; from the commencement of the year 1803, to the termination of the year 1807, 1808,
pp. 29-44. His presentation copy to the King was among George III's books given to the nation by George IV and now has the British Library press-mark 194.a.10. Gordon's pencil deletions and corrections are clearly visible on Bathurst's MS. For a much fuller account of the campaign, see Sir Robert Wilson's diary, Add. MS. 30098, which records (f. 174b) Bathurst's arrival in Prussia at the end of April 1807.
