HOURS, &c., in Latin. Contents :(i) Calendar, with many French saints, including Eutropius, Bishop [of Saintes] (Apr. 30), and Ausonius, Bishop [of Angoulême] (May 22), both in blue, besides several others connected with S.W. France; also with 'Dedicatio eclesie Engolism' [Angoulême] in blue on Aug. 19. Another entry in blue, 'Translacio sancti Benigni', on Nov. 3, probably refers to Benignus, apostle and martyr of Dijon, who was venerated in many parts of France on Nov. 1 (see below, artt. 3 and 5). f. 1;-(2) Hours of the Virgin, followed severally by those of the Cross and of the Holy Spirit. f. 7;-(3) Penitential Psalms and Litany, the latter including SS. Vellum; ff. vi+ 101. 9 1/2 in. x 6 in. Early XVI cent. Gatherings of 8 leaves (I6, iii9, iv7, vii7), mostly with catchwords. Written in France, presumably in or near Angoulême (see above, artt. 1, 3, 5). Fourteen full-page miniatures in architectural frames, with large-scale figures, fairly well executed in the characteristic manner of the school of Jean Bourdichon ; thirty-two smaller miniatures illustrating art. 5 ; initials and line-endings in gold on coloured grounds. In the following list of subjects, nos. 1-13, 46 are fullpage miniatures, the remainder small (mostly about 1 1/2 in. x 1 1/4in.) 1. Annunciation: half-length figures of Gabriel and Mary under an arch, the Dove with three cherubs above. f. 7.
2. Visitation: in the upper part of the frame is the monogram EN within a fetterlock, repeated thrice, and in the lower part are the same monogram and device, with the motto 'Jusques au bout' on two scrolls. f. 19.

On f. 6 b is an erased shield of arms, quarterly, 1 and 4 a chevron between three estoiles; and the same (?) arms appear to have been also on ff..,53 b and 67 (perhaps also 40, see above, no. 9 in list of miniature ). On ff. ii-iv are entries, in French, of the marriage of Anne Hurault, Baron d'Huriel, and Loyse de Harville, the births of their children, and the death of Anne and his son Philippe, 1578-1586 (cf. Anselme, Histoire Généalogique, &c., vi, 1730, P. 506). Bound in red morocco, gilt-tooled, with monogram of George III.
