JUVENAL AND PERSIUS, viz.:-
1. 'Iunii Iuuenalis Aquinatis satyri liber feliciter Incipit' : the sixteen satires. Wants the following lines:-vi. 126, 478-479 ('et poenas ... cogitur'), vii. 221, viii. 7, x. 320, xi. 165, 166, xiii. 175, 182. Each satire except the first has a summary description in one or two lines prefixed in coloured inks, e. g. sat. iii, 'Odisti quia Roma bonos prauos collis (sic, for colis) hinc te Effugit Vmbritius diuersa pericula uitans'. f. 1.
2. 'Anii (sic) Persii Volaterani satyri liber feliciter incipit': prologue and six satires. Wants lines i. 46, 80, ii. 36-37 ('nunc ... generum), v. 70-72 ('quamuis ... posterior'), 175. f. 70b.
Vellum; ff. 83. 8 in. x 4 1/2 in. Written in Italy, in a hand of 'italic' type, late XV cent. As vocative mark the scribe uses the accented suprascript o. Gatherings of 10leaves (vii9, end of art. 1, viii9 last 7), lettered (no h), without catchwords. Sec. fol. 'Cum populum'. Coloured initials, the first decorated, and in the lower margin of f. 1 two shields of arms, the one az., two garden-lilies in saltire or (?); the other arg., a tower gu. These are possibly for some branch of the Torriani (or della Torre) family of Valsassina. Bound almost exactly like nos. 18, 20. Belonged to Joseph Smith, Consul at Venice, Bibl. Smith., Addenda, p. xxxvii, col. i.
