L. ANNAEI SENECAE tragoediae X, viz. Hercules Furens, with the heading 'Anney Lucii Senece Cordubensis philosophi morallis. Tragædia prima de Hercule furente siue de furia Herculis', f. 2;- Thiestea' : Thyestes, f. 22;-'Edipa': Oedipus, f. 39;-'Thebais': Phoenissae, f. 55;-'Ypolita': Phaedra, f. 65b;-
'Troas', f. 84b;-'Medea', f. 102 b;-'Agamenonia': Agamemnon, f 118;- 'Octauia', f. 133;-'Octhea Herculea': Hercules Oetaeus, f. 148. Each play except the first is preceded by an argument in prose, and in the case of the first five a few glosses have been added. The MS. belongs to the interpolated (A) class, see Peiper and Richter's ed. (Teubner, 1902). Ff. 60, 61 have been transposed with ff. 76, 77. On the fly-leaf (f. 1) are:-(a) ' Epitaphium Magnifici Comitis Carmagnole' [Francesco Bussone, Conte di Carmagnola, d. 1432] , five, hexameters beg. 'Nula meo pars Italiæ non territa ferro', (b) 'Epitaphium Francisci Foscari Ducis Venetiarum' [Francesco Foscari, Doge 1423, d. 1457], two elegiac couplets beg. 'Mente deo similem totus quem credidit orbis', and (c) Epitaph on a canonist, two couplets, beg. ' Hic iacet Euganee dedus (sic) admirabile gentis'. Vellum ; ff. 178. 11 1/2 in. x 8 in. Written in Italy. End of XIV cent. Gatherings of 8 leaves (last 10), with catchwords. Sec. fol. 'Atrum'. Illuminated initials with border-prolongations at the beginning of each play, that on f. 2 with figure of Seneca in red, holding a book. Bound like no. 16, but with arms as in no. 14. Belonged to Joseph Smith, Consul at Venice, Bibl. Smith., Addenda, p. lviii, col. i.
