'A SUPPLEMENT to the book in His Majestys possession which containeth a Survey of all His Majestys Dock yards with the buildings &c. therein taken in the year 1698 ' (i. e. King's 43), illustrated by plans showing the state of each yard at the three several periods of 1688, 1698, and 1774. Probably by Thomas Mitchell, afterwards Assistant-Surveyor of the Navy, whose signature appears on the frontispiece drawing, f. 2. An inserted paper after the table of contents (f. 4) describes a project for amplifying the work with a history of naval architecture. The contents are:-
1. Accounts and plans of the Dockyards, their enlargements, &c., viz.:-Portsmouth, f. 5; Plymouth, f. 12; Chatham, f. 16; Sheerness, f. 26; Deptford, f. 27; Woolwich, f. 32.
2. 'A complete List of His Majesty's Royal Navy with their dimensions ... when and where built', &c. f. 37.
3. 'An Account of the greatest Naval Force this Country ever had on foot at one time during the last war, which was at the end of the year 1759.' f. 53, 4. Observations on 'raising men' for the Royal Navy. ff. 54, 55. Art. 5 is inserted in another hand.
5. 'Ships launched in 1773 and 1774.' f. .56. Paper; ff. 57. 21 in. x 143/4 in. A.D 1774. Bound in dark blue morocco, tooled.
