'THE HIGHLANDS of Scotland described, with some observations concerning the late Rebellion and Scotland in general. Also a scheme for civilizing the disaffected clans, and improving their country, In a letter from a Gentleman at Edinburgh to his Friend in London'; n. d. [the binding is lettered 1748, but the evidence for this is not apparent]. Printed from this MS. as 'The Highlands of Scotland in 1750', with an introduction by Andrew Lang, 1898. Lang conjectures the author to be [David] Bruce, a surveyor of forfeited estates. Some of Bruce's letters and reports are in the Hardwicke Papers, Add. MS. 35447. A printed Letter from a Gentleman at Edinburgh to his correspondent at London of earlier date (6 Sept. 1745) may or may not be by the same author, as the title is a common form. Paper ; ff. 26. Folio. 14 3/4 in. x 9 in. Circ. A.D. 1748-1750.
