'LES PHILIPPIQUES en iv odes, avec la clef des explications nécessaires et intéressantes sur tout l'ouvrage, deux Préfaces ... et la critique des Muses contre les Philippiques.' According to the complete edition by M. de Lescure (Paris, 1858) of this satire (written by François Joseph de Chancel de Lagrange [b. 1677, d. 1758] against Philippe, Duc d'Orléans, Regent of France [d. 1723]), the first three odes were published in 1720 and the fourth (fifth of Lescure's ed.) added in an edition in 12mo printed in Holland in 1723. Besides the whole of Ode IV of Lescure's ed. the MS, omits Ode III, str. xi, beg. 'La patrie en vain', interpolated in a MS. copy of Les Philippiques belonging to [Honore Gabriel Riquetti, Comte de] Mirabeau [d. 1791] but absent from the early editions, and Ode V [IV in MS.], str. vii, beg. 'Chez toi', &c. Each separate 'article' or strophe of the four odes is accompanied by explanatory notes and a running commentary(not printed in the edition). At the end (ff. 244 b, 247) are added (a) ' Parodie satyrique de la dernière scène de Mitridate', on the death of the Duc d'Orléans, and (b) 'Epitaphes sur le Regent de France' ; Fr. and Lat.
