COLLECTIONS on Venetian history, viz.:-
1. 'Qui comenza la cronica della magnifica citta de Venetia et come la fù edifiada, et in che tempo, per chi' : extracts apparently from the earlier part of an anonymous chronicle whereof there is a copy in S. Mark's library at Venice, codd. italiani, no. xxi (see Zanetti, Lat. et .Ital. D. Marci Bibliotheca, 1741, p. 227). This Venice MS., which extends to 1446, was transcribed in 1519, as the colophon states, by one Gasparo Zancaruolo (see Cigogna, Delle Inscrizioni Veneziane, ii, 1827, p. 309), and is thence sometimes called Cronaca Zancaruola. The portion given here consists of eleven chapters, viz. : (a) On the dispersion of the Trojans and S. Mark's vision;-(b) 'Dell' advenimento d'Attila, flagellum dei', 414;-(c-e) 'Come furno edificado Mazorbo, Torcello ... Chioza et altri lidi et isole', &c. (f) 'Queste sono le uision che haue ... S. Beg. 'Al nome sia de Dio padre . . . Di qui auanti sarà notado á che muodo fu principiado'; ends 'zoccoli di veluto cremesino'. f 24.
2 .'Congiura domini Beomontis Tiepuli simul con domino Marco Quirino et coniuratis contra Ducale dominium, 1310 die 15 Iunil Venetiis': an extract apparently from the chronicle of Giovanni Giacomo Caroldo (see King's 147, ff. 123 b-131, and other copies of this episode which are enumerated in the description of that MS.). Beg. 'La congiura delli nobeli Quirini'; ends ' fù fatta beccaria et cusi fu fatta '. f. 58.
3. 'Cronicha de tutte le casade della nobel cittá de Venetia ... con le arme de tutte le casade di essi zentilhomeni che sono del gran conseglio et de molti cittadini de Venetia forestieri et signori 1i quali de tempo in tempo sono stati creati alla dignita del detto conseglio ', &c. : a nobiliary of Venice, written perhaps about A. D. 1585 (the election as Doge of Pasquale Zigogna, al. Cicogna, seems to be a later addition in the original hand, f 309b). Alphabetically under the first letters. Illustrated with about 750 coats of arms in colours in the margins. The text and the list of families is different from Royal MS. 14 A. ix, A, and from any of the other similar MS. compilations in the Department. Beg. 'Aleardi. Questi uenero de Schiauonia cioé della città de Zara'; ends 'Ziurani . . . belli edifficii qui in Venetia'. A table of the families is prefixed (ff. 2-23) to art. I. f 80.
4. 'Qui auanti io uoglio notar li Dosi di Venetia et li loro proprii nomi, et le loro casade, et mostrar le loro arme Ó scudi con le insegnie di quelli che furno fatte [sic] nella nobel cittá di Eracliana che fu poi ditta Città Noua', &c. : list of Doges from Pauluzzo Anafesto, 709, to Marino Grimani, 1595 (continued in another hand to Lunardo Donado, al. Leonardo Donato, 1605). Arms in colours in the margin. A similar, but not identical, work is in Add. MS. 14287. Beg. 'La soprascritta città noua se chiamaua Eracliana perche li populi'. f. 316.
