DESCRIPTION of the Town of Sigtuna, in Sweden; 'auctore Mart. Laur. Aschanei, Pastore in Fresta et Hammarbÿ, regnique antiquario, qui vixit centum ante annos'. The original title stated that the author was unknown, but his name has been added, as above, and the colophon (f. 14) states that ' the contents of the MS. are an extract from Aschan's work made by L.Holmstedt'. Divided into chapters treating of (a) its situation and extent (f. 4);-(b) its interior condition, in ancient times and at present (f. 8 b) ;-(c) its churches and chapels (f. 9 b);-(d) its arms and escutcheons (f. 12). At the beginning are copies of three vellum documents relating to (a) its market, dated 1421 (f. 2);--(b) the privileges of the town, dated at Stockholm, 1499;-(c) the monastery and its possessions, dated at Sigtuna, 1510. Swedish, written in Gothic script. Paper; ff. 14. Quarto. 8 in. x 63/4 in. XVIII cent.
