'An Account of the War in India, written by Captain John Caillaud [Brigadier-General, 1763, d. 1810] in a letter from Colonel Lawrence to Sir John Mordaunt from the beginning of the troubles in 1752 to the cessation of arms in 1754' : narrative, written by, or in the name of, Col. [aft. Maj.-Gen.] Stringer Lawrence, of the war between the English and French on the coast of Coromandel in 1752-1754, with a slight sketch of events from 1730. Published, with the exception of the three first paragraphs, and with verbal alterations, by Richard Owen Cambridge, in 1761, as pp. 1-71 of his 'Account of the war in India', &c., under the sub-title of 'Colonel Lawrence's narrative of the war on the Coast of Coromandel'. Of Caillaud's authorship there does not seem to be any other evidence (see note by Sir F. Madden on f 1). Paper; ff. 216. Folio. 15 in. x 91/2 in. XVIII cent. Halfbound in crimson leather, marbled sides.
