'A Journall of the seige and takeing of Buda by the imperiall Army (under ye conduct of the Duke [Charles V] of Lorraine, and his Electorall Highnesse [Maximilian Emanuel] the Duke of Bavaria), by Mr Jacob Richards, one of his Majesty's Engineers, who was appointed by the Right Honble [George Legge,] the Lord Dartmouth, Master Generall of his Majesty's Ordnance, &c., to serve in the said army, in order to his improvement for his Majesties future service.' The journal extends from 15 June, 1686, to 2 Sept., on which date the Turks were driven out and the city was taken by storm. At the beginning is 'A Plan of Bude, with all its works as beseig'd and taken', &c., drawn by J. Richards. Printed, 1687- Other copies are Harley MS. 4989, apparently the presentation copy to James II ( see note on fly-leaf), and almost identical with the present MS. in binding, &c., and Stowe MS. 448, which, however, wants the plan.
Paper; ff. 19. Folio. 12 3/4 in. x 7 1/2 in. Contemporary binding of dark blue morocco, finely tooled. Royal arms added.
