NARRATIVE of the Second Siege of Gibraltar, 1727, &c., viz.
1. 'An authentick copy of a journal of the siege of Gibraltar, as sent by Colonel [afterwards General John] Guise to Sir Charles Wills [d. 1741] in 1727': diary, 2 Feb. 12 June, 1727, with lists of forces, casualties, &c. Another copy (abridged) is in Add. MS. 29267, f 1. A relation of the siege in Add. MS. 36680 is a different work. Cf also An impartial account of the late famous siege (1728), and J. S. Dodd, Anc. and Mod, Hist, of Gibraltar, 1781. f 2.
2. 'An account of the duties done in His Majesty's city and garrison of Gibraltar, the method of making the detail and manner of forming the guards, with an account of the ordnance', &c., circ. 1733. f. 31.
Paper; ff, 52. Quarto. 91/4 in. x 71/4 in. XVIII cent. Half-bound, marbled sides. Belonged to John Nicoli of Court Lodge, Sussex, who sent it 1 Aug. 1779 (see his note on f.1) to 'Mr. Nicoll' [John Nichols, the printer ?] in view of the threat of another siege, as a present 'provided you print it beautifully'. The third siege was delayed till 1782-1783 (see journal in Add. MS. 38606), and Nichols does not seem to have printed the MS.
