'NOUVELLE THÉORIE sur la Science des Mines', by Bernard Forest de Bélidor; followed (f. 28) by 'Epreuves de mines et contremines faites par Mr. de Belidor proche le chateau de Bisy les 18 et 19 Juin 1753', and (f. 30) by copy of a letter to M. de Bélidor from Frederic the Great, King of Prussia, dated Potsdam, 12 May, 1754. Dedicated to [William Augustus,] Duke of Cumberland. The substance of the treatise was embodied by the author in 1756 in an article in Mémoires de l'Académie Royale des Sciences, Paris, 1762. Cf. also Jähns, Gesch. der Kriegswissenschafte, Abt. ii (1890), p. 1747. At the end are three coloured plans.
Paper; ff. 34. Quarto. 9 in. x 7 1/4 in. XVIII cent. Calf binding. This or another copy was in the sale of Sir Charles Frederick, Master-General of the Ordnance, in July, 1786, lst 1253.
