'TRAITÉ de (al. des) fortificacions', in four books, with coloured plans at the end of each book. The subjects of the books are: (i) De la simple enceinte;-
(ii) De la fortification moderne ;-(iii) Des dehors et des citadelles;-(iv) Des fortifications irregulieres. A second part is promised, 'comme ces quatre livres ne sont qu'elementaires', which will also be in four books and treat 'de la construction effective des fortifications'. Beg. 'Par le mot de fortifications nous entendons', and pt. i, 'Fortifier une place, c'est la renfermer de maniere'. Among the plans appended to bks. iii and iv are twenty-nine engraved plans (coloured) of actual fortresses, chiefly in France. The names are given in the Index. All of these appear (in a few cases with minute differences) in Nicolas de Fer's Introduction à la Fortification [n. d., after 1705], and some in other atlases of the same cartographer.
