'HENRY AND EMMA, or the Nut-brown Maid', by Matthew Prior, written in blue and gold by H[enrietta] L[ouisa, wife of Thomas Fermor, Earl of] Pomfret (cr. 1721), for 'Her Royal Highness Princess Caroline' [Caroline Elizabeth, dau. of George II, b. 1713, d. 1757]. On the title-page are five lines by M. Prior (d. 1721), addressed to the Princess.
Vellum; ff.28. Quarto. 9 in.x 71/4 in. Circ.1722-1732. Each page has a gold border of Greek key-pattern enclosing red roses, and at the top a Princess's coronet over the monogram P. C. On the blank verso pages the four crests of Fermor, Earl of Pomfret, Jeffreys, Baron Jeffreys of Wem, Paulet, Marquis of Winchester, and Herbert, Earl of Pembroke, occur in succession throughout the MS. Title within an ornamental border, with the arms of the Princess, ' H. L. Pomfret pinxit'. Bound in blue velvet with the arms of George III in gold on each cover.
