BIBLIOTHECA HEATHIANA ... cura et studio Henrici Drury, Collegii Regalis nuper socii. mdcccxi' (the halftitle page, f. 1, has the date as mdcccx): catalogue by H. Drury, afterwards Master of the Lower School at Harrow, of the collection of 9,304 volumes begun by Benjamin Heath, Town Clerk of Exeter (d. 1766, see Dict. Nat. Biogr.), and increased by his son Benjamin Heath, D.D., F.S.A., F.R.S., Head Master of Harrow (1772-1785) and Fellow of Eton (d. 1817). Dr. Heath sold his library privately to a Mr. Johnson of St. Paul's Churchyard, who caused it to be sold by auction by E, Jeffery in April and May, 1810. The public sale was held contrary to Heath's wishes, and the language of Jeffery's note in the sale-catalogue (Cat. of books containing all the rare, useful, and valuable publications, &c.) is obscure; but the circumstances, as above, are explained in a MS. note in one of the Museum copies (press-mark 822. b. 37). The sale-cat. was reprinted, with prices and purchasers' names, as Cat. of books in various branches of literature, &c., 1810.
Paper; ff. 99. Folio. 143/4 in. x 91/4 in. A.D. 1811. Ornamental titles, &c., in Indian ink (ff. 1, 3, 98, 99). Bound in crimson morocco, blind-tooled, slightly gilt at the corners, with arms of George III in gold.
