LISTS of pictures in the collection of King Charles I, in the hand of George Vertue, F.S.A. (d. 1756), viz. :-
1. 'A catalogue or table of the pictures or paintings of the several masters that were in the collection of King Charles 1st anno 1639' : historical subjects, very briefly described, grouped partially under the painters' names. These are possibly only Vertue's own notes abstracted from Abraham van der Dort's fuller inventory, the original of which is in Ashmole MS. 1514 at Oxford (copies in Lansdowne MS. 1050 and Harley MS. 4718). Vertue afterwards made a fuller, though incomplete, transcript of the Ashmole MS., which W. Bathoe printed in 1757. There is a different list, also by Van der Dort, in Add. MS. 10112. It has the date 1639 on the binding, but it may be earlier. f. 2.
2. 'History paintings mention'd in the inventory of the Kings pictures taken 1649, not before in the catalouge 1639': probably extracted from the inventory of which copies are in Harley MSS. 4898 and 7352. f. 8.
3. 'Portraits in the Royal collection', possibly extracted from Van der Dort's list. f. 14.
4. 'Portraits mention'd of the Kings, in the inventory, 1649' (cf. art. 2). f. 17. For other collections of Vertue's see Add. MSS. 19027, 21111, 22042, 23068-23098, &c.
Paper; ff. 18. Folio. 115/8 in. x 71/4 in. Middle of the XVIII cent. Belonged to John Ives, F.R.S., F.S.A. (sale-cat. 1777, 1ot 462).
