FREKE PAPERS. Vol. I. Commonplace book of Elizabeth Freke, begun not earlier than Sept. 1684 (see f. ii) and continued down to Feb. 1714. The principal contents are:-(1) Culinary recipes. ff. 3b-34b;-
(2) Notes of rents and other memoranda rel. to her estates at West Bilney and Pentney, and to other business and financial affairs, etc. ff. 35b-46, 104-115 (rev.);-(3) Autobiographical memoir, in diary form, headed 'Some few remembrances of my misfortun[e]s [which] have attended me in my unhappy life since I were marryed w[hi]ch was November the 14: 1671'; written in sections, apparently at intervals, and ending at 15 Feb. 1714, two months before her death. ff. 46b-103 passim;-(4) Medical recipes, etc. ff. 121b-245b (rev.). Paper; ff. vi + 245. Folio. 1684-1714. Formerly in original binding of white vellum over boards. Purchased, 19th-20th cent., by the donor from Edmund Kent of East Winch Hall, Lynn.
