ETHEL SMYTH COLLECTION. Vol. XI (ff. ii + 91). 'Songs of Sunrise.' No. 2, '"1910" For mixed Chorus, with (or without) Band': full score (ff. 1 -29) and copies of band parts (ff. 30-91 passim);-no. 3, 'The March of the Women': copies of band parts only (ff. 30-91 passim). Composed in 1911 in connection with the composer's Suffragette activities (C. St John, op. cit., pp. 151-160) and published, in vocal score by Breitkopf & Härtel, 1911. The composer subsequently declared the works to be of 'antiquarian' interest only, but the best of the music was incorporated in the Overture to 'The Boatswain's Mate' (C. St John, op. cit., p. 297).
