Contents:
ff. 1r-91v: Psalter (imperfect), from the Prayer accompanying Psalm 15:11, beginning at 'fac nob[is] vias viae' (f. 1r) to Psalm 17:30, ending at 'Quoniam a te eripar a temtaione' (f. 2v), and from Psalm 37:18, beginning at 'Quoniam iniquitatem' (f. 3r), to Psalm 150:2, ending at 'multitudinem magnitudinis eius' (one quire is lacking after f. 91);
ff. 92r-110v: Liber Canticorum or Book of Canticles (imperfect), from Canticle 17, beginning at, 'pedum tuo[rum] om[ne]s' to the end, explicit 'Benedic domine anni benignitatis' (Patrologiae cursus completes: Series Latina, ed. by Jacques-Paul Migne, 221 vols (Paris: [no pub.], 1844-1863), 86, col. 855);
f. 111r-163v: Liber Hymnorum or Hymnal (imperfect) with the title 'Liber imnorum de toto circulo anni' (f. 110v) and explicit, 'Imni vespertini dominicales quottidiani' (two leaves and at least one quire lacking);
ff. 164r-202v: Part of a Liber Horarum or Book of Hours, containing five canonical hours and 12 offices in full, beginning at 'usque duodecim psalmi reciptentur', the first complete office being the 'Ordo ad medium noctis celebrandum' (f. 166v), and ending in the 'Officium in II Dominico' at 'Salus tua domine super populum tuum venite et bene..'.
11th- and 12th-century glosses in the margins in Latin and Old Spanish (ff. 33r, 138v, 155v).
Musical notation in the northern Visigothic style throughout, with neumes accompanying antiphons, chants and some hymns and used as tie-marks to link the marginal glosses to the main text (e.g., f. 118v, see Zapke, ed., Hispania Vetus (2007)).
Decoration:
One full-length initial with interlace and geometric patterns and horses' heads in red, blue, green and yellow (f. 162v). Large initials in red, blue and yellow with interlace decoration (ff. 1-163), some with animal heads (e.g., f. 118v). Initials with penwork decoration in geometric or foliate patterns, in red, blue, yellow and brown. Small initials in red, some with highlighting in light brown and/or blue. Display capitals in blue, yellow and red and rubrics in red.
They style of the foliate initals (e.g., f. 70r) is the same as initials in Paris, BnF ms Smith-Lesouëf, 2, a Psalter from Silos.

Provenance:
Abbot Nuño, abbot of the Monastery of San Sebastián de Silos (later named Santo Domingo de Silos) perhaps one of the manuscripts inherited by him from Don Sancho de Tabladillo in the mid-eleventh century, listed as 'liber imnorum' in a charter of 1067, inserted in an 11th-century Liber Comicus (Paris BnF, n.a.l. 2171, f. 26v) (see Boylan, 'Library at Santo Domingo de Silos' (1992), p. 61 and Vivancos Gomez Glosas y notas marginales (1996), pp. 35-36).
The Benedictine Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos, glossed in the mid-12th century in Carolingian script, mostly in Latin but with a small number of glosses in Old Spanish (ff. 33r, 138v, 155v); in the catalogue of the 13th century (now Paris, BnF, n.a.l. 2169, f. 16v) and with marginal notes in Spanish in hands of the 13th century, 'Sennor Santco Domingo' (f. 90v) and 14th century (upside down), 'Sant Sebastian fue un cavallero muy gentil e honrrado, amado de Dios e por eso es llamado cavallero' (f. 145v); in the catalogue of 1772 by the librarian, Gregorio Hernandez and kept in cupboard 14: marked 'Cajon 14' (f. 1r) (see Boylan, 'Library at Santo Domingo de Silos' (1992)).
Rodrigo Echevarria y Briones, last Abbot of Silos (1790-1875) hid some of the books in the neighbouring villages and kept some with his personal archive after the dissolution of the monastery in 1835, when the archives were transferred to the provincial library at Burgos.
The Benedictine abbey of San Martin de Madrid, a dependency of Silos, the personal archive of Echevarria was entrusted to them on his death in 1875 (see Férotin, Histoire de l'Abbaye (1897). In 1877, 69 manuscripts and incunabula including the present manuscript were sold by them to a Madrid bookseller for 16000 pesetas to raise money for the rebuilding of the abbey of Silos.
Bachelin-Deflorenne, booksellers of Paris, sold at their auction of 55 manuscripts from the library at Silos, 1 June, 1878, lot 19.
Bernard Quaritch, London booksellers, bought by them for 1 600 francs, along with 13 other Silos manuscripts; purchased from them by the British Museum, 15 June 1878 (a note on f. [i recto]).
