(Gr. xv.) ',THE DISCOUERYE and Reouerye of Ireland, with the authors Apologye," the first part giving information as to open and secret traitors, with complaints of the authorities at Dublin, etc., the second suggesting "the 'best meanes to recouer that crazed kingedome and repayre the sicklie state thereof" (f. 52), and the third defending the writer's own proceedings against charges of treasonable practices, etc. The tract, which was composed at the end of 1599 or. in 1600, is apparently addressed to Sir R. Cecil or some other leading member of the English Privy Council, but the author's name, written at the end of the introductory epistle and on the last page, has 'been obliterated. From internal evidence there can be no doubt that he was Captain Thomas Lea or Lee, author of " A 'brief Declaration of the Government of Ireland," 1594 (Desiderata Curiosa Hibernica, Dublin, 1772, vol. i. pp. 87-150), and executed at Tyburn, Feb. 1600, for a plot to force the Queen to release the Earl of Essex (State Trials, 1809, vol. i. col. 1403). For other copies see Historical MSS. Commission, Second Report, 1871, App. pp. 31, 40. Paper; ff. 192 (including a few added leaves). Small Quarto.
