This manuscript contains an autograph copy of La Lumiera, an Italian poem in fifty eight-line stanzas, written by Antonio Francesco Doni (b. 1513, d. 1574). The poem is a lament that mourns the ultimate fate of man and his failings in the world. It is preceded in the manuscript by a short letter from the author presenting the work to his patron, Giovanni Vincenzo Gonzaga (b. 1540, d. 1591), then prior of Barletta.

Script: Humanistic cursive, written in the hand of Antonio Francesco Doni.
Binding: Post-1600. Brown leather, with the armorial bookplate of Thomas Grenville gold-stamped on the upper and lower covers; blue textile bookmark attached to spine; marbled endpapers.
